The basic waste disposal charge covers some of the costs for free waste management services, which are not covered by producer responsibility. The charges cover also some waste management control costs. The grounds for determining basic charges are specified in the Waste Act (646/2011).
Annual charges will be collected from the party who owns the property on the 1st of January. The basic charge is determined annually in the Urban Services Committee meeting.

Free Services
The waste transfer station will accept electric and electronic waste, hazardous waste, metal and untreated wood free of charge.
Households can take their raking waste and brushwood, branches and stems to a reception site at Säväkäntie 4. The reception site is open round the clock but winter maintenance does not take place daily. You can collect wood for burning on the site, too.
Unused or expired medicines and mercury thermometers are taken to a pharmacy for disposal.
Waste Transfer Stations do not accept gas cylinders, explosives, cartridges or fireworks.
Companies are charged according to the waste disposal price list for hazardous waste, untreated wood as well as raking waste and brushwood.
Recycling points
The recycling points and their tidiness are the responsibility of Finnish Packaging Recycling RINKI Ltd.
